This landing carpet in a Rushden home had developed extensive staining and dark marks across several of its most heavily used areas.

Assessing the stained carpet
Before starting, we inspected the landing and identified the areas requiring the most attention.
There were several noticeable marks through the centre of the landing, along the usual walking routes and close to the bedroom doorways. Some areas were considerably darker than the surrounding carpet, while the overall colour had also been affected by accumulated soil.

Stain removal must always be approached carefully. Different substances can react differently to cleaning treatments, and it is not possible to guarantee that every mark will disappear completely. We aimed to achieve the best possible improvement while cleaning the carpet safely.
How we cleaned the landing carpet
We began by treating the most heavily marked sections so that the built-up dirt could be loosened from the carpet fibres.
Extra attention was given to the central walking route and the areas around the doorways. These sections normally collect more soil because they are walked across repeatedly throughout the day.
The landing was then deep-cleaned using professional carpet-cleaning equipment. We worked methodically across the complete area rather than concentrating solely on the visible marks. This helped produce a cleaner and more consistent finish across the whole landing.
A significant improvement
The difference following the clean was immediately visible.
The extensive dark marks were substantially improved, the patchy appearance was reduced and the carpet looked much brighter and more even. Cleaning the complete landing also helped restore a more consistent appearance between the previously stained areas and the rest of the carpet.
This was a satisfying result, particularly considering the carpet’s condition when we arrived. It is a good example of why a heavily marked carpet may be worth professionally cleaning before deciding that replacement is the only option.
