Stair carpets have a difficult job. They are walked on every day, and the edges of each step can quickly collect dirt from shoes, socks and general household traffic.
For this recent carpet-cleaning job in Rushden, the customer asked us to clean a staircase that had become noticeably dull and heavily marked through regular use.
The condition of the carpet
The carpet itself was still serviceable, but the staircase was beginning to look tired. Dirt had built up across the main walking areas, particularly along the front of the steps where feet naturally land.
These traffic marks had gradually changed the appearance of the carpet, making it look darker and less even than its original colour.

Cleaning the staircase
After inspecting the carpet, we treated the heavily used areas before deep-cleaning the staircase with our professional carpet-cleaning equipment.
Cleaning the staircase takes a little more time and care than cleaning an open room. Every tread, riser and edge needs to be cleaned individually, with particular attention paid to the areas where the most dirt has accumulated.
We worked methodically from one step to the next, lifting out the built-up soil and refreshing the carpet fibres throughout the staircase.
The finished result
Once cleaned, the staircase looked noticeably brighter and much more even in colour. The darker traffic marks had been greatly improved, and the carpet looked clean, fresh and better maintained.
The before-and-after photographs show how much everyday dirt had accumulated in the carpet. There was no dramatic permanent stain to hide—the improvement came from removing the gradual build-up caused by normal household use.
